Worms rain from the sky over Scotland

In an unusual Fortean event pupils at a Scottish school encountered worms raining down from the sky.
A PE lesson at Galashiels Academy was cut short when a series of thudding sounds heralded a downpour of worms from the heavens, it is thought that the event could have been caused by freak weather at a nearby river resulting in worms being lifted in to the air and dumped a short distance away.
A PE class had to run for cover as it started raining worms. Teacher David Crichton was leading a group of pupils playing football at Galashiels Academy when dozens of the invertebrates began plummeting from the sky. The 22 second-year boys had to abandon their lesson

You know, at least it was worms and not spiders.

I originally read the UM news' title as "Women rain from the sky over Scotland" and was like "Wait, what? "

Look! In the air! It's a bird! It's a plane! No it's, Holy crap!! Run!! Well, maybe the plane people were too afraid to carry snakes on the plane and opted for worms instead. LOL

real worms or jelly worms? I wouldn't mind jelly worms. You have just opened a can of worms by reviving a month-old thread.

That would be a great story to tell your kids/grandkids...... "One day, when I was same age as you, we were at school and it started raining. It wasn't ordinary rain though............"

lol Eldorado..I want to know the explanation behind the freak weather event on a seemly cloudless day where it involves a river too, in Scotland. It had to have been a tornado or vortex or something to lift them up.

Anvil, I think you're on the right track here. Take a look at this link. Don't think there's any 'proof positive' for this happening but there's certainly some good circumstantial evidence.

Cheers Lilly. A waterspout it could have been then, still odd though if there was no visible weather.
