World's first electronic glasses developed

The new spectacles contain a thin liquid crystal layer that can change its alignment when needed.
The emPower glasses could spell an end to conventional bifocals by allowing the wearer to easily switch between two settings for reading and distance viewing. The downside however is that they require charging up and could set you back over $1000.
People who wear bifocal glasses know all about how the distorted view they get when looking downwards at the ground. All the emPower wearer needs to do is tilt his head downward or manually touch the frame and the reading prescription is activated - and vice versa.

Bi-focals... seriously? Where is the infra-red display, the night vision, the extreme zoom capability and the molecular analysis capabilities? It doesn't even have a camera.

Does not corrective eye surgery correct short and long sightedness? Would it not be comparable in price? It is comparable at conventional glass prices.
