Scientists have found a new way to make gelatin. Human-derived jelly baby anyone ?
With interest in artificial food on the increase following the recent announcement that the first artificial burger might be available within six months, researchers in Beijing have announced that they've discovered a way to grow large amounts of human based gelatin.
Gelatin has a long history of use as a gelling agent by the food industry – and, according to the journal’s publisher, the American Chemical Society, human-derived gelatin “could become a substitute for some of the 300,000 tons of animal-based gelatin produced annually for desserts, marshmallows, candy and innumerable other products”.

And 2nd, why human gelatin? I mean our race did eat plants and animals since the 1rst humanoid and we are doing well. The biggest reason why our food are so full of virus and disease are primarily because of the way we treat them and the awe-full way they life in corporate farms. And the fact that our immune system is often weak because of our sterile lifestyles; aka Why we have more and more kids with allergies. It's not about the food. It's because there are more and more people who care about money and production, they don't care about quality. Soon, human DNA become "infected" human DNA. I... [More]

I see this as cannibalism. I really hope that products containing this crap are properly labeled so at least we can make the choice whether to be cannibals or not. It might not be as bad as killing a person and eating them, but it is still a form of cannibalism in my eyes. AN alternative to animal gelatin? I can't wait, As a veggie I really miss marshmallows and other such treats I can understand someone not wanting to eat products containing animal gelatin for moral reasons, but human gelatin as a substitute? The product may be artificially created, but it is created from human DNA. Would you... [More]

Oh lord, what has this world come to.. This topic made me think of the video I saw a few years ago that had a good point about the world and it's abuse of resources. Makes me think no matter how far advanced in science we get, the overall health and well-being of the people will be overlooked due to the need for more money and power and mass production instead of quality production. We're getting so far from the natural resources, it;s scary to think one day, it may be too late to go back to the basics. Just a thought Here's the video if interested.

and the new meat that is grown in a petri dish... soon to be sold in the supermarkets as a cheaper alternative that does not require taking a life... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_vitro_meat Test tube meat !!! In vitro meat, also known as cultured meat, is an animal flesh product that has never been part of a complete, living animal. It has been described, sometimes derisively, as "laboratory-grown" meat. In vitro meat should not be confused with imitation meat, which is a vegetarian food product produced from vegetable protein, usually from soy or gluten. The terms "synthetic meat" and "art... [More]
