Skygazers in Free State remain puzzled over sightings of a number of strange fireballs in the sky.
Riaan van Greuning took photographs on Sunday night of five of the objects flying low over Harrismith. "It was cloudy and the phenomenon was fairly low in the sky," he said. "Five of these objects appeared in a matter of 20 minutes." The objects moved in a southerly direction and made no audible sound. "I do not know what it was. Something like this makes one think. All I know is that it was not a helicopter's searchlight."
The appearance of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in the Free State have left skygazers puzzled as they try to fathom what they are looking at.

I know that town fairly well, I don't imagine Chinese lanterns being a hobby there, but one never knows. The danger of Chinese lanterns is that they could cause wild fires during the dry season ( May - Aug/Sept) so it would be irresponsible to release them before the first substantial rains. As for the professor's comment, he probably didn't want to enter into a controversial conversation.

@27vet i have to agree with you. one signiture is the light from a "ufo" is a scintillating light. from the ionization on the skin of the craft.

after all these years of ufo sightings, no one has really seen one. it's always a flash of light or something. how come they never land

These are orbs which have been seen worldwide for centuries. They are inter-dimensional light beings with no bodies. They are known to be the natural enemies of the reptilians who invaded planet Earth a long time ago.

These look like flares to me. You can even see the smoke above them being illuminated by the light. Nothing special here.

I saw the same thing, only I live in Benoni,Gauteng (South Africa). I was driving to a friends house on the 17th of September 2011 at about 23:00pm. I was driving in my car but I managed to take a photo of one of the crafts, the pic I took came out crap (and no its not one of those hoax photos that are always blurred, distorted or out of range) but what I saw was 2 orange crafts moving without sound in a straight line after each other. They were very large and low,too low to be planes, they were definitely not airplanes (i have seen airplanes before) nor were they satellites or chinese lantern... [More]

Unless aliens are piloting floating fireballs, this was more than likely a very terrestrial phenomenon.
