Locals were left perplexed as a freak shower of apples battered cars and homes on Monday night.
Traffic was brought to a standstill and the roads were covered in a green slush as the apples deluged from the heavens. "The apples fell out of nowhere," said one motorist. "They were small and green and hit the bonnet hard. Everyone had to stop their cars suddenly." Experts believe the apples had been picked up from an orchard by a miniature tornado and deposited on to the streets.
After a series of storm warnings, drivers in the evening rush hour were prepared for almost anything. Except, that is, for it to start raining apples.
