Tokyo scientists have developed a car seat that can identify the driver by analysing their posterior.
The seat works by measuring the pressure applied by that person on each part of the seat and matching it with previously recorded values. So far an accuracy of 98% has been achieved and it is hoped that the technology will be used in commercial vehicles to protect against intruders within two or three years.
A group of researchers at the Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology in Tokyo has developed a car seat [JP, PDF] that can identify drivers when sitting down.
