Plans are being made to pump 24 million gallons of water into the side of a dormant volcano.
Geothermal energy developers are hoping to go ahead with the plan this summer at a volcano in Central Oregon to demonstrate new technology that is hoped will provide large amounts of green energy and help save the environment. "The big issue is can we circulate enough water through the system to make it economic," said Susan Petty, president of AltaRock Energy, Inc.

I'm all for alternative energies. But I'm not too sure that fracking a volcano is a wise idea. I'm also kind of curious as to where they will be getting all the water from.

That sure is a lot of water to "save the environment".

My one question: Is this sea water they're using for this, or fresh water? If it's sea water, then fine. There is plenty of that stuff floating around. However, if it is fresh water, then this is the most laughably counter-productive thing I have ever seen. Instead of throwing water into a volcano, why not just send it to a famine stricken country in Africa? You know, use all that water to help solve an actual problem? No? Going to use it to taunt the volcano gods then? Gotcha...

Here's my train of thought on this idea. 1. Water cools lava. 2. Cooled lava hardens. 3. Continual cooling prevents the hardened lava rock from melting again. 4. A sealed top creates(edit typo) a pressure vessel. 5. A pressure vessel tends to explode once the maximum pressure has been reached.

Preventing overpopulation of the earth will solve the energy crisis problem, not the symptoms.
