An entire forest over 298 million years old has been discovered buried underneath a coal mine.
The forest is so well preserved that scientists are calling it the "Pompeii of the Permian period", by studying the site they have been able to determine the precise location of every plant. It is believed that the level of preservation is down to the forest being engulfed in volcanic ash within days at some point in the distant past.
American and Chinese scientists are flabbergasted after discovering a giant 298-million-year-old forest buried intact under a coal mine near Wuda, in Inner Mongolia, China.

Wonder if the seeds that are found are any good. Would be cool to regrow the trees.
