UFO watchers have reported a record number of recent UFO sightings over New Zealand's North Island.
Researchers have received a number of reports over the past five weeks according to Suzanne Hansen, director of the Ufocus New Zealand research network. "I've got 30 (UFO/UAP) reports on my desk at the moment from the upper North Island and Northland from the past couple of weeks that we're yet to process [on top of the many others] ... It's unprecedented," she said.

The reports vary from one man who witnessed a strange craft landing in the region to a Maungakaramea resident seeing strange lights hovering over the mountains. "I've never seen anything like it before, but it definitely wasn't somebody with a torch or vehicles as it was above the skyline, not on the hills," he said.
There have been an "unprecedented" number of UFO sightings reported in the North Island over the past two months, UFO watchers say.

Hi Stoneheart! Yes, I mean earthquakes caused by the volcanic activity on the rim Thank you for the clarification but I did not actually say "A Volcano" but "volcanic activity" which keeps those on the rim of fire on their toes lately. I am very sorry to hear about the loss and damage and wish you determined battlers well. I have a place in Queenstown, but I live in Oz, I hope to become an NZ citizen in a few years, I want to move there when I retire. I love the place immensely, the people, the country, the food, it's all just awesome. I envy you in many ways. It was just a tongue in cheek jok... [More]

hahahaha all good .. I love that part of NZ and go there often while I travel for work... costs an arm and a leg and maybe your first born to own a place down there. Mate, I envy you yet again, next to Australia, Queenstown is great. I live on the Gold Coast over here, it is pretty expensive next to lovely Queenstown. My place was cheaper than what I could buy over here. For the same dollars, a view of Lake Wakatipu beats staring at a highway. I went to the North Island some years ago as well, I travelled from Auckland down to Rotarua, then down past Taupo, across to Gisborn, and back through ... [More]

I went to the North Island some years ago as well, I travelled from Auckland down to Rotarua, then down past Taupo, across to Gisborn, and back through the gorge to Rotarua, and back to Auckland to fly out. But is was so long ago I do not remember the cost of living, I remember I thought fuel was dear though. I hope ... [More]

One of the things to bear in mind and I would welcome expert advice on this; I would think that NZ airspace is not as busy as say the UK or US? Being in a more isolated part of the world how does it actually compare? So a rash of unidentified lights may in fact warrant serious consideration for that reason. Depends on the part of the country, time and weather conditions. Auckland would be the busiest by far but where I live (smack bang in the middle of the country), there are some aircraft in the skies, mostly jets on late night domestic/international flights, night-flights for pilot training ... hmmmm The yanks increase their presence in Antartica and soon thereafter the UFO reports increase in nearby New Zealand. Hmmmmmm - If the Americans have increased their presence in Antartica, would that mean that there would be an increase in activity over the South Island, not on the other side of the country.
