New images from the Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter show the Apollo landing site flags still standing.
Experts have analyzed photographs taken by NASA's orbiting LRO spacecraft and identified small shadows at the locations of the landings. While these shadows were previously considered inconclusive, new photographs of the same locations show the shadows changing with the position of the sun around the points where the flags are thought to be.
One flag however is missing - that of the original moon landing, Apollo 11. This ties in with astronaut Buzz Aldrin's claim that during their lift-off from the lunar surface the thrust from the engines knocked the flag over on to the ground.
Images taken by a Nasa spacecraft show that the American flags planted in the Moon's soil by Apollo astronauts are mostly still standing.
