The mysterious rocks found by Peter Lindberg's Ocean X team could be little more than glacial debris.
Lindberg himself continued to promote the mysterious nature of the discovery during a recent interview, suggesting that stair-like structures within the formation could be evidence of ancient construction. Divers investigating the scene have brought back samples of the rocks which have since been studied for clues in an effort to get to the bottom of the mystery.
"What has been generously ignored by the Ocean-X team is that most of the samples they have brought up from the sea bottom are granites and gneisses and sandstones," geology professor Volker Brüchert wrote in an email. "Because the whole northern Baltic region is so heavily influenced by glacial thawing processes, both the feature and the rock samples are likely to have formed in connection with glacial and postglacial processes."[!gad]Lindberg himself continued to promote the mysterious nature of the discovery during a recent interview, suggesting that stair-like structures within the formation could be evidence of ancient construction. A feature on the floor of the Baltic Sea that was discovered last summer by Swedish treasure hunters is making headlines once again.
