A fresh sighting from two dog walkers has reignited the possibility of a lion on the loose in England.
Two women who requested to remain nameless for fear of ridicule have reported witnessing a large orange and brown creature roaming around a housing estate in Bedford. "I was stood about four feet away from it and I've seen enough National Geographic programmes to know it was on the prowl," said one. "I couldn't believe it. My two dogs were shaking. It was too big to be a domestic cat and it was definitely a wild animal. I know what I saw and he looked at me."

The 'Essex lion' as it is sometimes known continues to perplex authorities and has been met with a considerable amount of skepticism from local police. A full scale search was carried out only a few months ago when another witness reported coming across a similar creature in the area however no trace of any big cats was ever found.[!gad]Two women who requested to remain nameless for fear of ridicule have reported witnessing a large orange and brown creature roaming around a housing estate in Bedford. The hunt for the Essex lion caused widespread panic in August after holidaymakers claimed to have seen the animal near a caravan park in St Osyth, near Clacton.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if that lion, a giraffe, a zebra, a hippo, a monkey, and some penguins escaped from a zoo? Sounds like the makings of a good film Slightly off topic but it really happened! Do you guys remember just recently in the USA, a whole bunch of wild animals were let out by their owner who then committed suicide? The tragedy was that almost all of the animals were shot. I don't know why they didn't dart them. Availability?

What a sad outcome, and what better evidence that we should not keep these animals for our own pleasure. IMO Zoo' are just about acceptable, unfortunately they are usually run for profit than for the good of the species they display. As for the film, I think Melo ... [More]

Yeah I think it was just on the TV here in the UK, I have it recorded on sky but not watched it yet....those poor animals :-( the authorities take no chances with domesticated wild animals...if that makes sense??? they have relatively no fear of humans so are more of a danger to us than wild ones!

Just found a newspaper report that mentions the police officer who investigates all the big cat sighting in Cambridgeshire. This report is about the Fen Tiger http://georgiecampbell.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/ely-standard3.jpg
