Can some people 'see' sound ?

Researchers have been investigating the areas of the brain relating to the ability to 'see' sounds.
An experiment was carried out involving the sound-induced flash illusion in which a single flash is followed by two beeps. While most people will only see the one flash, in a few cases the individual will actually see a second flash corresponding with the second beep. MRI scans revealed that those who were prone to the illusion had a smaller visual cortex, the part of the brain responsible for sight."If we both look at the same thing, we would expect our perception to be identical," said researcher Benjamin de Haas. "Our results demonstrate that this not quite true in every situation."
Some people may actually see sounds, say researchers who found this odd ability is possible when the parts of the brain devoted to vision are small.
