Fisherman catches shark eating other shark

A remarkable photo of a shark attempting to eat another shark has gone viral since appearing on-line.
The picture was taken off Kaiteriteri Beach near Nelson in New Zealand by a Reddit user who goes by the name 'Mancubus'. The image shows a small school shark caught on a fishing line while underneath the lower part of its body has been caught in the jaws of a much larger blue shark. It's an unusual and fascinating image and one that has gained a huge amount of attention since appearing on the Internet.

"Blue sharks often steal fish off people's lines at this time of year and they also commonly eat other shark species," said shark expert and marine scientist Clinton Duffy. While both species are common to the waters around New Zealand the blue shark is becoming more of a rarity in the region due to the practice of shark-finning.
A spectacular photo believed to have been taken off Kaiteriteri Beach near Nelson in New Zealand proves it's a shark-eat-shark world out there – and that you should always watch your tail.

Ah.. the Daily Mail.. Great White? my backside... As I've mentioned before, I used to run a marine research centre in Port Lincoln, South Australia - one of the best places to find these magnificent but STOCKY creatures: I know exactly what Great Whites look like - and neither of those in the OP link are anything like GW's, especially not that tiny pup on the line..

Pretty obvious at a glance that neither shark is a Great White. Looking closely at the jaws of the larger shark makes this abundantly clear. The article did a very poor job reporting on the facts.

If you actually read the article there is no mention of a "Great White".

If you actually read the article there is no mention of a "Great White". Yes there is....... From the article - The larger shark, also a Great White, had obviously decided he'd be the one to gobble the fish up.

I agree they are probably not great whites, their snouts are typically conical, and their countershading border is below the eyes. Both of these appear to have a more flatten snout, and the countershading border is even with the lower edge of the eyes. Not sure if they are makos (teeth aren't jagged) or blues (snout not every long) either, but could be bronze whalers or also called copper sharks. They are among the commonly seen around New Zealand and can reach 4m.
