The US government has responded to a tongue-in-cheek petition asking them to build a Death Star.
The petition was started on November 14th and received 34,400 signatures in favour of having the US devote trillions of dollars to the construction of a Star Wars inspired space station capable of destroying planets. The humorous request ended up receiving a formal response because it met the minimum 25,000 signature requirement.

"The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000," said White House science and space chief Paul Shawcross. "We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it." In a concluding statement and in further reference to Star Wars he added - "Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship ?"[!gad]The petition was started on November 14th and received 34,400 signatures in favour of having the US devote trillions of dollars to the construction of a Star Wars inspired space station capable of destroying planets. The US government has rejected a petition urging it to build a "Death Star", claiming it was too expensive, conceptually flawed and did not fit in with the policy of not blowing up planets.

I think the only one's that may have petitioned for this project were those who were promised employment by military contractors and those who are already active within the various branches of the Pentagon, NASA, military industrial complexes and the likes. Normal people like Joe and Sally up the road are much more concerned with the money going towards needed programs that are now on the chopping block. We have enough problems on earth that we haven't solved, and yet we intend to go elsewhere and create chaos...it just doesn't ring a bell upstairs for me. Makes sense to me. Im in charge of a ... Aw..... You know they could have just built a armed military space station... ...Not necessarily with a planet-destroying-laser, but you get the point.

@crysiisx2 ..........they are trying to make strong regulations, not punish the innocent. Aslong as you clear a criminal history and mental health check you should be good to go with owning your own weapon right? What's wrong with regulations to help keep children safe? As for the death star..... "Obama, I am your father!"
