Real-life marauder's map created

The data from a number of security cameras around a building is analyzed by a set of special algorithms which use facial recognition, color matching and location tracking to determine where each individual is located. The resulting co-ordinates are then displayed on a map in real-time.

The system is unique because it uses several sources of information to plot a person's whereabouts and does not require that person to be carrying a tracking device. "An ideal Marauder's Map algorithm should integrate different sources of information," the research team wrote in a paper covering their findings.
