Woman struck by lightning inside supermarket

A woman in Louisiana had been queuing with groceries when she was hit by a bolt from the blue.
Lakeisha Brooks had been at the checkout in Rouses when she saw a flash and heard a loud crash. Pushing her shopping cart away from her she soon realised that it was her that had been struck as a second strike hit the same spot she'd been standing in. "I felt like a breeze and then the pain came," she said. The force was so great that it blew her shoe off her foot. "I had all of this black smut on the bottom," she added.

The 33-year-old mother of four managed to escape her ordeal relatively unscathed but still feels pain in her legs when walking. "I didn't realize I had been struck by lighting until I saw it again," she said. "Just knowing it could happen inside a grocery store... it could happen anywhere."
Brooks was paying for her items about 2:13 p. m. when a flash of lightning hit her inside the store at 561 Grand Caillou Road, Houma Fire District Chief Joe Mouton said. She was alert as she was taken to the hospital.

Who mentioned anything about a roof? She was standing in the vestibule of her home and in the doorway.

A hot lightning bolt travelling along a sprinkler system, and it didn't set the sprinklers-off? OK, maybe not enough heat. And the blown-off shoe... Is that why I always just see 1 shoe on a highway?

It just goes to show you could be killed at any given moment, by any number of things.

Who mentioned anything about a roof? She was standing in the vestibule of her home and in the doorway. Oh, so the door was open? That is a whole different scenario than what I had envisioned. I thought she was just standing there and wallah, right through the roof. That actually does happen. I remember a story just a few years ago of a woman that was praying at her open window. Praying, as it were, that God would protect her family from the terrible lightning storm that was going on. Zapppp....she was struck by lightning while praying at the window. It is impossible for lightning to strike ins... [More]

It is impossible for lightning to strike inside a closed room. Actually it can, indirectly. For example this is why we are advised not to be on a "land-line" telephone, hand washing dishes, or taking a bath/shower during a lightning storm, amongst other advise.

Yes...indirectly...but one cannot ever, never has been, never will be, anywhere on God's Grey Earth, struck by lightning directly inside any fully enclosed building. It is impossible. It can't happen, won't happen and never happened and never will happen...and isn't happening now...no way, no where, no how! Phew...
