Today marks the date that Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to in the movie 'Back to the Future II'.
Fans of the science fiction classic will be familiar with the film's idea of what the world was going to be like in the year 2015 - a date that was 30 years in the future when the original movie came out.

In the sequel, Marty McFly steps out of the DeLorean to find a world dominated by flying cars, 3D holograms, self-lacing shoes, self-drying clothes and of course - hoverboards.

While some of these things, especially flying cars, are still firmly relegated to the realms of science fiction, some of the other futuristic technologies in the film have actually become a reality.

Most notable among these are wearable computer displays, video conferencing, facial recognition, autonomous drones and even an upcoming real-life version of Nike's iconic self-lacing shoes.
There have even been attempts to build a working hoverboard however none of them are quite as impressive as the one Marty McFly uses to escape Biff's goons in the movie.

Today in celebration of the aptly titled 'Back to the Future day', fans from around the world have been rewatching the films and reminiscing about the first time that they saw them.

"For people in their forties, Back to the Future represents a good time in our lives," said TV presenter Jason Bradbury who maintains that above all else the second movie demonstrates the sweeping changes in technology and lifestyle that have occurred over the decades.

"We are often made to feel old or less relevant because we grew up in a world without computers, but we have come through a great change and that is worthy of respect."

"Back to the Future gives us a way of expressing that."

I get Loot Crate and the box was not suppose to get here until the 22nd, but it came today and it had a Doc Brown Funko Pop in it. I'm nerding out so much right now. The fact that it came today of all days is just awesome.

I am ashamed to say i hadn't seen the films until today, bf made me watch them. Not bad! When I was a kid the internet was a rarely used thing and television was pretty much the go-to source for something to do when bored inside the house. TNT and networks like that are where I saw every movie that came out before '95. Nowadays I have better things to do when bored than see what old movies are on TV.

We may not have some of the tech, but I'm typing from an iPhone 6 plus. I think we have surpassed the technological predictions just in more practicle ways.

We can have all the technological advances we want, but until I can stick a coin sized pizza in a special oven, and have it come out extra large, it all means nothing to me.. nothing!!

While I disagree with your overly strict regulations, I can see myself saying the same thing when looking at some dork riding a longboard. i want a skateboard, not a gigantic contraption strapped to my feet.. not even comparable in my eyes. Cool pose, though, if not obnoxiously loud.
