The prototype high-speed transport system has propelled a sled up to 116mph along a test track in Nevada.
Originally revealed back in 2013 by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the HyperLoop is a potentially revolutionary transportation system consisting of a network of reduced-pressure tubes.
Special pressurized capsules inside the tubes, which will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 760mph while riding upon a cushion of air, will act as carriages for the passengers.
The initial route, which would be from Los Angeles to San Francisco, could take just 30 minutes.
This week's testing of the HyperLoop concept comes courtesy of HyperLoop One, one of the companies vying for the opportunity to turn Musk's dream in to a reality.
The company has already managed to secure several partnerships including Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting and the British engineering consultancy group Arup.
"We will work alongside these world-class partners to redefine the future of transportation, providing a more immediate, safe, efficient and sustainable high-speed backbone for the movement of people and things," said HyperLoop One CEO Rob Lloyd.
