The 76-year-old disappeared into a hole after erosion caused his garden patio to collapse into a long forgotten well.
What had started off as an uneventful afternoon in the sun quickly turned into a life-threatening situation when the man, who lived at a house in Hampshire, England, found his own patio give way beneath his feet, causing him to fall into an abandoned well situated underneath his garden.
Luckily for him, he only fell around two meters and landed on his back on a small hollowed out section at the side of the well - narrowly avoiding the 12-meter drop that was just inches in front of him.
Even so, he was unable to get out and couldn't risk moving too much or else he'd fall a lot further.
It wasn't long before fire and rescue personnel had arrived to assess the situation.
By setting up a special lift system above the hole, they were eventually able to rescue him.
