Johnny 5 is alive... again! Image Credit: YouTube / Johnny5Replica / BBC News
The popular 1980s movie robot has been brought back to life thanks to the tireless efforts of Ryan Howard.
The 34-year-old, who hails from Nottinghamshire, England, began working on the life-size, functional replica of the iconic movie robot during lockdown.
Despite Howard having no experience building something this complex, the end result is barely distinguishable from the original Johnny 5 who was first introduced in the 1986 film Short Circuit.
The robot is even capable of moving like its on-screen counterpart, with working tank treads, movable arms, eyebrows and neck, as well as the ability to speak with the same voice.
Howard admits that he lost count of exactly how much the project cost, but there's no denying the impact it has had with video clips going viral and people queuing up to meet the robot.
"I've never done anything like this before," he said.
100x times more impressive than the animatronic from the Saudis called Sophia. Sophia was designed for marketing/propaganda purposes without any other practical utility.
