Social media star Brodie Moss came across a whale's tail sticking out of the water while out on his kayak.
While finding a whale in the waters off the coast of Australia might not seem particularly unusual, you've probably never seen one quite like this before.
When Moss discovered what looked like a whale's tail suspended out of the water while paddling in his transparent kayak recently, he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing.
The tail seemed to be frozen in place - almost like a glitch in a video game.
Using an underwater camera, he was able to record footage of the whale itself which seemed to be sitting upside-down in the water, motionless, with just its tail protruding from the surface.
"What is it doing ?" he pondered in the video.
It turns out that what he had found was a whale engaging in a very rare activity - tail sailing - which still remains something of an enigma but could be aimed at helping the whale to cool down.
You can check out the full encounter in the video below.
Moss did not say where he caught his footage, but he is a member of the YBS Youngbloods crew – a team that creates ocean media content on the coasts of Western Australia between Exmouth and Broome. https://www.sciencealert.com/incredible-video-man-encounters-a-whale-seemingly-frozen-in-place They use drones.
Sometimes, .. well , sometimes you see the damnedest things out in nature. I've heard many stories of strange behavior by fish. Have seen it in large river fish myself towards dusk. We figured and agreed, it must be the fire or camper lights and the larger or largest land-locked / trout(s) would poke their head up and look things over, well that's what we figured. The evil eye: Can fish stick their heads out of the water and size up the situation? • Outdoor Canada
Yes I saw the video along with other posters in this thread judging by the comments. The video wasn't private when I posted it, there would have been no point in posting a video that nobody could view. I don't know why the uploader has since made it private viewing only.
