The bag of chips turned out to be so spicy that more than a dozen students became unwell after eating them.
Spicy food is everywhere these days and in some parts of the world there are even contests held to see who can consume the most amount of super hot peppers in the fastest amount of time.

Perhaps the most infamous pepper of all is the ghost pepper which is so incredibly hot that it even comes with a health warning.

Unfortunately for a group of students from Rokugo Koka High School in Tokyo's Ota Ward recently, nobody had taken these warnings particularly seriously.

As soon as the students tucked into a bag of ghost pepper infused chips, they started to experience a range of symptoms ranging from nausea to severe stomach and mouth pain.
Fourteen of them had to go to the school's medical room with some of them actually collapsing and rolling about on the floor due to the extreme pain of eating the spicy snack.

They ultimately ended up in hospital but were fortunately able to return home the same day.

The chips themselves, which are described as "18+ curry chips", come with a warning imploring people with high blood pressure or a weak stomach not to eat them.

It also warns that eating too many can cause a range of health problems.

Suffice to say, they are definitely more of a novelty food item than a dietary staple.

It isn't for the flavor, the chili heads get a high off eating extremely hot food because their bodies release endorphins and dopamine. There was a pretty good show on Hulu called Superhot that is worth watching if you want to see why some people enjoy this stuff.

Capsaicin can be quite the bane for the unwary.

It is ok. Spicy, yeah, but it doesn't taste nearly as good as Trinidad Scorpion Butch Ts. I think Butch Ts taste better than the lot of them, ghost peppers and Carolina reapers included. More of a back-of-the-throat heat and more flavourful. I remember the first time I tried a ghost pepper, I thought it was way less spicy than what I was expecting. Pepper X does pack a punch, though. Flavour-wise, I don't like it as much. I am a hot sauce junky but I have found the best tasting hot sauces aren't the hottest. Valentina black label, all the Marie Sharp's but specifically Belizean Heat, all the E... [More]

Straight battery acid that stuff is. It's all burn and no flavor at all. At least Reapers have that fruity/peppery flavor to them still.

El Yucateca as you said, not the hottest but great taste with enough heat. First time in about 6-7 years I didn't grow any ghosts or Reapers, just 2 habaneros and 2 scotch bonnets.

Think it was Denmark that recently banned some spicy ramen noodles for health concerns... I've tried those very noodles the buldak X-3,they are spicy but nothing close to the hottest foods out there.

Those crisps would have given me massive heartburn, I can't eat anything too spicy.
