Who or what is this ? Image Credit: Facebook / Jessee Clauson and Camille Avarella
The human-like shape was spotted far up a cliffside in Long Peaks, Rocky Mountains National Park.
When Jessee Clauson and Camille Avarella took dozens of photographs while trekking through the Rocky Mountains on a recent trip, the last thing they expected was to end up on the local news.
That's exactly what happened, however, after they got home and started looking through their photos.
In one of the images, they spotted a peculiar figure that seemed to be climbing up one of the rock faces. Based on the scale, it seemed to be around 20ft tall and had elongated arms and legs.
Keen to find answers, they posted the image up on a Facebook group for a second opinion.
It wasn't long before a journalist had picked up on the story and before they knew it the photograph - along with the story of how they captured it - was being featured on the news.
So what exactly was it that they captured on camera ?
In reality, the 'humanoid' is most likely a case of pareidolia - the brain's innate ability to perceive meaningful shapes in abstract patterns.
In this case, the shape of a figure is likely the result of a chance rock formation illuminated by the sun.
