Terrified family begs council for new house due to poltergeist activity

The family maintains that their council house is haunted by a ghostly presence that has left them unable to live there.
The High Court in Ireland has recently been dealing with a rather spooky Christmas case concerning a council house that is said to be haunted by a poltergeist.

Thomas and Louise Stokes told the court that the house their family had been moved into to get away from a mould problem in their previous home had left them terrified because of paranormal activity.

This activity reportedly included objects being "flown from side to side" and items being flung around.

Doors, tables and chairs were also seen "moving around in front of their eyes".
A letter from the house's previous occupant, described as "beyond traumatic", was also presented at the hearing.

"Everyone deserves a home. I never asked for a mansion, I asked for a safe home for my kids," said Louise. "I just want somewhere safe for my kids five days before Christmas."

In the end, however, High Court Mr Justice Simons struck out the family's claim against Leitrim County Council because the case had been about their first house with the mould, not about the new one with the alleged haunting.

While he stated that he understood their concerns about the safety of their children, he concluded that claiming for a third house would require a whole new application to the local authority.

Whether the family will spend Christmas with their resident poltergeist, however, remains unclear.

This raises a good question if the legal system can accept paranormal phenomena as reason for taking action. This gets hard to prove. Anyway, the old resident's statement as well as the fact that new residents are known to stir up paranormal activity, I give the chance of it actually happening in this case to be probably above 50%. If they wanted out, they probably would have claimed a more concrete reason.

Just for a bit of context.  This is Social Housing, so it is housing provided by the local government, also known as council housing in the the U.K. This is important because there is a huge housing shortage in the U.K. affordable housing is very very difficult to find, and if you are on the waiting list for a council house, you have to take the first thing you get or risk going to the back of the queue. This is likely a family seeking better accommodation in a reasonably unique manner.

It worked beautifully for the Lutzes in Amityville back in 1976.
