A woman who went into cardiac arrest maintains that she can now see ghosts and predict when someone will die.
We've covered a lot of cases of near-death experiences on the site over the years, but this is perhaps the first time we've reported on a case of someone who claims that such an experience has imbued them with paranormal abilities.
It's certainly true that those who have had near-death experiences often report having a whole new outlook on life and a new perspective on the mystery of what happens when it's over.
In this particular case, however, the experience left a very different mark.
Back in her younger days, Louisa Peck - who is now in her 60s - went into cardiac arrest after overdosing on a laced drink while enjoying an evening out at a nightclub.
Speaking to
NeedToKnow, she recalled the sensation of shooting up into the sky to a "new land" where she encountered her ancestors while in a state of bliss and timelessness.
Next thing she knew, she had regained consciousness and someone was doing CPR on her.
After her ordeal, she attempted to put it out of her mind, but maintains to this day that it seemed to have given her the ability to see ghosts and to predict when other people will die.
In one case, she recalled seeing a ghostly figure emerge from a swamp, while in another, she was able to correctly predict that her unborn nephew would not make it to term.
Today, she blames the "aftereffects" of her experience for her unusual abilities.
"I now believe intelligence and love are one, and that they manifest as the entirety of the universe - including life," she said.
