Would you buy one of these ? Image Credit: YouTube / Volonaut
Poland-based firm Volonaut has invented a remarkable new hover bike that doesn't use propellers to stay in the air.
If you've ever wished you could careen through the forests of Endor on a hovering speeder bike like in Return of the Jedi, you may soon get a chance to do this for real (on Earth, at least).
Polish firm Volonaut has developed a brand new type of vehicle - a hovering bike that, unlike most flying vehicle concepts these days, doesn't rely on using drone-like propellers to fly.
Capable of speeds of up to 124mph, the Airbike uses jet propulsion and can seat one rider.
A "proprietary stabilization system" makes it possible for the bike to stay aloft and enables the rider to control their flight with relative ease.
The firm also maintains that it is so comfortable that the rider will "become one" with the bike.
Of course, given that it uses jet propulsion, noise is likely to be a factor - as is fuel.
Even so, it's not hard to imagine people all over the world flying something like this in the future.
Details of exactly when the Airbike will be available to buy and how much it will cost will be revealed soon.
You can check out footage of the Airbike in action below.
And still that doesn't make it less of a marvel of the new age. When I was a kid I read novels by Kir Bulychov, who described the future where people would fly in the sky using different personal devices (a sort of wings, one-seated "flips", flying self-drive taxis, etc.), but unlike today in his future all the people of the Earth were responsible, knew their role in the planetary society since early age and rarely followed their irrational passions because there were no more governments anywhere to be blamed for their own stupidity.
If it achieves thrust through a jet-type engine, it seems it would be way too loud for public use. However, if it goes into production, it will be fun to watch others use it.
Honestly, that looks so laughably bad, I lost interest almost immediately. Why would any test pilot not be wearing protective gear including a crash helmet rather than cosplaying in a cheap Biker Scout costume? Why would they be riding it through a forest with high collision risks instead of at test facilities or even at an aerodrome or flat field? The CGI used for the flattening of the grass is terrible. Clearly hanging from a crane mount in the helmet shots. Lousy.

Why not just show a drone flying along with it in the forward views, why hobble your credibility with the B.S. bs? But all in, enough seems real enough for me to be scratching my head on the possibility of being legit.
