The man had seemingly fallen on hard times and was eventually found surrounded by empty beer bottles.
The unfortunate situation came to light when rescue workers were called to a property in the Ban Chang district of Rayong, where a 44-year-old man - identified as Thaweesak Namwongsa - had been discovered by his 16-year-old son having a seizure in his bedroom.

When the rescuers arrived, they found him unresponsive and surrounded by over 100 empty beer bottles that had been arranged on the floor with a narrow path open between them.

According to his son, the man had refused to eat anything - even when meals were prepared for him - and had instead consumed nothing but beer for over a month.
Sadly, there was nothing the rescue workers could do to save his life.

It is thought that a recent divorce was responsible for the man's descent into alcohol-fueled oblivion.

According to nutritionists, while beer does contain calories, it is not enough on its own to sustain someone over an extended period and also comes with the risk of nutrient deficiency and liver damage.

Suffice to say, trying to live off beer and nothing else was always going to be a recipe for disaster.

Beer's not cheap, though. I think food would have been cheaper. Priorities, people!

Sad that no one thought to help him; how can anyone NOT even begin to suspect that the man might have a mental issue going when he refuses all food and drink and insists on subsisting on beer. Didn't the son think to call relatives or something? Tragic all around and it could have been avoided.

Not always. Many people refuse to be helped. Speaking from experience.

Hmmm..I suppose so but still, it just seems so tragic; I don't know what their customs are regarding help for family members but the poor boy seemed to be the only caregiver and to have this dumped on him like that. Just did not need to ever happen but I can understand not wanting help because they feel they can do it all by themselves. (Sorry..didn't mean to sound like a jerk there)

No problem, Bendy. I lost one of my brothers to the drink, and we did everything but tie him to a chair. We never stopped trying to help him. Sometimes the hurt is too deep, and alcohol helps to quiet the demons. I'm still hurting, but I understand, and still love him, and forgave him.

An odd method to use for suicide.
