The man had been running an embassy representing fictional countries such as 'Seborga' and 'Westarctica'.
The bizarre scam was uncovered by police officers in India who arrested the man - 47-year-old Harshvardhan Jain - for a list of offenses ranging from impersonation to money laundering.
According to reports, Jain had been operating a fake embassy in a rented residential building near Delhi which had high-value cars with fake diplomatic plates parked outside.
The rouse was made all the more convincing thanks to numerous doctored photographs showing Jain with various world leaders and documents bearing fake seals of India's foreign ministry.
Most bizarre of all was the fact that he had been claiming to represent several countries that didn't even exist such as 'Seborga' and 'Westarctica'.
While the full details of his operation remain unclear, Jain is now facing multiple charges including forgery, possession of fake documents and impersonating an official.
Police have also seized four cars worth 4.5m Indian rupees.
Given the scale of the operation, it seems likely that he will face a lengthy jail sentence.
