Researchers have suggested that a particular medical situation could account for some alien abduction cases.
Most stories of alien abductions tend to follow a similar narrative, with the abductee being brought aboard an extraterrestrial vessel and subjected to various procedures and tests.
Some will recall (either naturally or through hypnosis) the experience of looking up while lying on some sort of medical bed to see strange figures leaning over them with unidentifiable medical apparatus.
But what if there was a conventional explanation for such recollections ?
Some experts believe that something known as accidental awareness might be to blame.
This is a term used to describe a situation in which a medical patient wakes up during a surgical procedure because the anesthetic has inadvertently worn off.
A patient in this scenario might experience something very similar to alleged alien abductees - waking up on a medical bed with strange figures leaning over them with medical instruments in their hands.
Some researchers believe that memories of such experiences might resurface in later life and be mistaken for alien abduction experiences, especially under hypnosis.
For some, the memories may be triggered by other traumatic events.
That said, while this could certainly explain some abduction experiences, it clearly doesn't work in the case of abductees who have never undergone an operation.
