The incident reportedly involved someone deliberately placing debris at the site of an aircraft crash.
According to reports, the unidentified aircraft came down approximately 12 miles outside the security boundary of the secretive base back on September 23rd.
The event, referred to by officials as "an incident", occurred in an area temporarily restricted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for "national security" reasons.
After the crash, military personnel moved in to clean up the site, leaving nothing for members of the public to find, but then just over a week later, the discovery of additional debris and an "inert training bomb body" within the vicinity of the crash prompted the FBI to get involved.
Here's where things get even weirder, as according to the US Air Force, these objects had been placed at the crash site afterward by persons and for reasons unknown.
"On September 23, 2025, an aircraft assigned to the 432nd Wing was involved in an incident with no fatalities or injuries," an official statement reads.
"The site was secured and guarded until recovery and cleanup operations were completed on September 27th."
"During a follow-on site survey on October 3rd, investigators discovered signs of tampering at the mishap location, including the presence of an inert training bomb body and an aircraft panel of unknown origin that were placed on the site post-incident."
"The matter is under investigation by Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and the FBI. No further details are available at this time."
Exactly what the aircraft was, why it crashed and why someone else would have then place unrelated pieces of debris at the crash site remains a complete mystery.
Who would do such a thing and to what end ?
No doubt this is one story that we'll be hearing more about in the coming weeks.
