Some important people have recently been stopping off at the enigmatic facility for reasons unknown.
The flights, which occur on a regular basis, use planes from the US Air Force's Janet fleet (an acronym for Joint Air Network for Employee Transportation) - a notoriously secretive group of aircraft identifiable only via a single red strip running from nose to tail.
According to tracking data, the most recent flight took off from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on December 22nd at 8:25am PT and arrived at Area 51 a short time later at 8:42am.
Such flights are believed to carry high-ranking military officials, Department of Defense staff and contractor employees to facilities known to house classified and top-secret information.
Anyone wishing to access Area 51 must use one of these flights as it is not possible to commute by car.
The base, which is part of the US Air Force's Nevada Test and Training Range, has long been shrouded in secrecy and is thought to have been used to develop and test various new aircraft over the years.
Some also believe that captured alien technology is secretly being reverse-engineered there.
Most likely, the latest flights to the base are carrying essential personnel who are working on some secretive project or other - possibly even a new type of undisclosed aircraft prototype.
As tends to be the case, however, we will probably never know exactly what they are up to.
