The survey focused primarily on whether or not people believed that aliens had visited the Earth.
With the UFO phenomenon and the possibility of alien life being hot topics in recent years, it is perhaps not a surprise that more than half of Americans believe that aliens really do exist.
The results of the poll, which was conducted by YouGov, indicated that 56% believe that aliens exist while around 47% believe that we've already been visited by extraterrestrials.
Around 30%, meanwhile, believe that UFOs are most likely to be alien in origin.
In addition, 35% believe that we will make formal contact with aliens by the year 2035.
As for the consequences of such contact - around twice as many Americans believe that it will have a negative, rather than a positive impact on humanity (14% to 29% respectively).
A whopping 74% maintain that if we did happen to encounter aliens, they would be more technologically advanced than us, while 66% believe they'd want to stay hidden from humans.
55% even think that aliens might spread diseases to the human race.
The poll also looked at what other enigmas people believe in as well, with 28% believing in Bigfoot, 23% in the Yeti, 22% in the Loch Ness Monster and 16% in the Chupacabra.
