Charles Forte was the first person to research and document reports of paranormal phenomena and cases of strange events in a concise and coherent way. Charles Forte was born in 1874 and died in 1932. He spent much of his days in the New York City public library and British museum where he'd search through newspapers, magazines and other publications for reports of mysterious phenomena. Forte himself did not found any paranormal societies because he was concerned that had he done so he'd attract all manner of crack pots. It wasn't until after his death that the Fortean Society was founded and much more recently the 'Fortean Times' magazine.
The work of Charles Forte resulted in the coining of the term 'Fortean' to describe strange, unusual and paranormal phenomena.
