'No proof' of bee killer theory

The idea that a mysterious disease is responsible for the unexplainable disappearance of large numbers of bees over the last few years is in error according to scientists, it is now claimed that no evidence for such a disease has been found.
Scientists say there is no proof that a mysterious disease blamed for the deaths of billions of bees actually exists. For five years, increasing numbers of unexplained bee deaths have been reported worldwide, with US commercial beekeepers suffering the most. The term Colony Collapse Disorder was coined to describe the illness. But many experts now believe that the term is misleading and there is no single, new ailment killing the bees. "

It seems to me that what we are experiencing with the bees, and in many other biological systems is a sudden emergence of toxic buildups which have been accumulating for decades. We use pesticides on the very plants which we expect our bees to fertilize for us. Since Agriculture has become progressively more intensive and industrial the levels of toxins have steadily increased to the point where overstressed insects simply collapse under the strain (this is the pattern for almost all disease manifestation in almost all species - slow chronic buildup followed by rapid decline). Unfortunately th... [More]

Albert Einstein once said: If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live. No more bees, no more pollination no more men! He wasnt an entomologist, but entomologists around today agree that the sudden and mysterious disappearance of bees from their hives poses serious problems! _____________________ If all honey bees disappeared worldwide, food would be scarce, as colonies of bees stopped pollinating fruit, nut and vegetable crops. (“Except for grains,” Berenbaum said. “There would be plenty of bread.”) Honey would disappear from the... [More]

Haven't bee populations been going up and down since, well, forever? Entire hives will suddenly disappear when a scout bee finds a better place to live. Since I first heard of CCD, I suspected that some news hound thought it would make a great story and blew it way out of proportion.

Bee populations are definately going down, and those that survive are in a very poor state of health and subject to mite attack. This is not a scare, it is reality. Br Cornelius

Br Cornelius Okay, from what I've been hearing so far is that CCD really just affects the large commercial bee keepers. It can't be too great for the bees if they're shipped 5,000 miles to pollinate some almonds, and then 2,000 miles to pollinate some oranges, and back and forth etc. Not to mention those crops were probably sprayed with...chemicals! The wrong combination could be a death sentence for bees, especially ... [More]
