The team working on the Large Hadron Collider have reported closing in on the heaviest particle known to science.
If the observations are confirmed, it would be a first for Europe; so far, the top quark particle has only been generated by one lab in the US.

If so, why would "the future" allow it now? What would've changed?

If so, why would "the future" allow it now? What would've changed? I was really just, you know, joking.

If so, why would "the future" allow it now? What would've changed? They were taken over by the Borg who wish to assimilate us all. The Borg think it's okay to procede with the LHC experiments. Harte

Well, as long as they don't go all Big Bang on us...

It would be fun to see what happens if/when they find the HB particle. Being a fan of John Ringo's work and currently reading his Looking Glass series, Higgs Bosons have been circulating on my mind lately, lol. I am sure they won't do in real life what they did in the series, but it's still cool when fact and fiction interact.

So basically, if this all works out what exactly WOULD HAPPEN??? also, how long are they thinking it will take to complete?

So basically, if this all works out what exactly WOULD HAPPEN??? also, how long are they thinking it will take to complete? Probably nothing much would happen. A bunch of theoretical physicists would have something ELSE to argue over. The side effects of the experiment would probably give useful (and economically significant) results in computer and information technology (since the LHC experiments use terabytes and terabytes of data that needs to be stored, exchanged, and analyzed), power transfer (efficient, low-temperature delivery of current to various parts of the accelerator), and long-t... Especially for the ones that huhhhhed. http://io9.com/5380647/is-the-large-hadron-collider-being-sabotaged-from-the-future that does make more sense than Ur fist comment

I thought they just found the HB particle? Large Hadron Collider rival Tevatron 'has found Higgs boson', say rumours
