Scientists have identified the first case of a boa snake having a "virgin birth".
The female boa gave birth to 22 baby snakes but without ever having mated with a male, while not common virgin births can occur in the animal kingdom however it is exceedingly rare for a vertebrate species.
A female boa constrictor snake has given birth to two litters of extraordinary offspring. Evidence suggests the mother snake has had multiple virgin births, producing 22 baby snakes that have no father.

Why couldn't they just have called it "parthenogenesis" instead of "virgin birth?" Unless you want certain people to get all worked up.

Poor little snakelets. No father. Who's gonna play ball with them and teach them all that "dad" stuff?

very very cool news item! in light of the fact that they acknowledge that all animals have the capacity to do this, it does lend a bit of credence to the virgin mary story, right? ahem...ok never mind lol
