An 85-year-old man in Madrid has spent 50 years building a cathedral out of recycled junk.
The monumental undertaking has kept Justo Gallego busy for most of his life, while there is still a long way to go before completion the cathedral is quite impressive and dwarves nearby buildings at over 131ft in height.
It's the sheer size of the structure that first strikes you. Almost 40 metres (131ft) tall, its spires and giant dome tower over the surrounding apartment blocks in this Madrid suburb.

Although it is an incredible act of faith, I wonder if the building is structurally sound. It would be a pity if anyone got hurt because something collapsed on someone.

What a truly amazing feat! Beats building an Ark I suppose, but people are definetly stranger than fiction.

Wow. What an amazing guy. Not many people can say they're building a cathedral in their spare time. Hope he gets to see its completion.

"For example the bricks don't meet minimum standards, either in themselves or the way they've been laid." Hmmm its surely not stable as far as I can understand from this, But anyways this man is very talented to achieve such a thing, He should surely be given some recognition.

"I work in a hurry, always in a rush," Justo says, as he smashes panes of coloured glass into tiny fragments for Angel to glue to the windows. You can see a pic of those windows in the link. He's truly amazing I think Ironically, by the time he is finished with his project, Spain will be a muslim country, so he can tear it right down again.

Kind of reminds me of Edward Leedskalnin and his Coral Castle in a way. Although Don Justo was from recycled material and not megalithic stones, but still amazing to have erected such a huge structure, brick by brick.
