The idea that the universe came in to being by accident should be rejected, the Pope has stated.
Speaking to a crowd of 10,000 at St Peter's Basilica Pope Benedict was adament that God was responsible for the Big Bang. "The universe is not the result of chance, as some would want to make us believe," he said. "In the beauty of the world, in its mystery, in its greatness and in its rationality ... we can only let ourselves be guided toward God, creator of heaven and earth."
God's mind was behind complex scientific theories such as the Big Bang, and Christians should reject the idea that the universe came into being by accident, Pope Benedict said on Thursday.

Even if it is a list, it's still pretty illogical. God created light and day and night before any sun or stars existed. The bible was an oral traditional and it was taught to be literal; they actually thought that what the bible said is true but since this is not the case, now they just want to say that it's "Metaphorical" or whatever. I'm not so certain that people were always supposed to take religious history literally. Take the old Mesopotamian religions for instance. The god Marduk slays Tiamat, and builds the world out of her carcass. He lifts half of her body to create the sky, and he u... [More]

I'm not so certain that people were always supposed to take religious history literally. Take the old Mesopotamian religions for instance. The god Marduk slays Tiamat, and builds the world out of her carcass. He lifts half of her body to create the sky, and he uses parts of her as pillars to hold up the world. The world is shaped as a disc, with the Deep below, the Heavens above, and a central pillar (the Ziggurat) in the middle, holding up the Heavens and reaching to the sky. The Mesopotamian knew that this wasn't meant to be taken literally though. The Sumerians knew that the world was round... [More]

on what evidence do people rely on- to make a claim- that the universe went "BANG"why not poof-I like that better-the big POOF And it was,-Now Why would God need to make a Big noise about this?- Since there is no mention of there being any "bang"to its creation at all?-- Just maby-- God said thus & such-- &-It was-silently done-Or -Maybe He had a crew doing his bidding- -Like in Hitchikers guide to the galaxy, & maby they made alot of noise instead? There was no noise or bang, it was the expansion of the universe. Peace mark

If these holy books are supposed to be the inspired word of god, then why even say it in a way which it could be misinterpreted? Wouldn't an all knowing god understand that it would be misinterpreted by people who are honestly wanting to worship him but it will get out of hand and some would think that they should kill all Jews because as the bible says "They are of the Synagogue of Satan" or commit other crazy crimes? How could an all loving God even say such things about his supposed own "chosen ones". I will certainly agree that the Bible does have many odd parts and inconsistencies. Anyway... [More]

When a perfect being inspires imperfect beings, the result will always be imperfect. Actually, that's not true. One can represent this in very simple mathematics. If God is perfect, then the chance that anything God will do (or inspire, etc) is incorrect is 0%. Whatever God does is perfect. Man is imperfect. We have no way of assigning a value to how imperfect Man is, but let us say Man is 100% imperfect, so anything Man does (or inspires, etc) will always be incorrect. Whatever Man does is imperfect. God inspires Man to write the bible. The chance that what Man writes will be incorrect is 0% ... [More]

The existence of everything outside of God is proof that God creates and tolerates imperfection. There are other possibilities. Either God is not perfect, or God creates that which is intentionally imperfect. I agree the former is a possibility, but I cannot reason how the latter could be possible. God must communicate to humans on human terms. Human language and human thought is limited, in order for a "perfect" message to get through to people they would have to be made perfect to understand it. You could argue that God could alter humanity's perception of it to make it the message come out ... [More]

There are other possibilities. There are always many possibilities. I agree the former is a possibility, but I cannot reason how the latter could be possible. Well the world itself isn't perfect from our point of view. Unless the world is perfect in the sense that it's exactly the way God wanted it to be. Here, you are speculating what a perfect being is capable of. The truth is you do not know, so any argument incorporating 'limits' or 'mandates' with respect that perfect being carries no weight. Well, I'm trying more to argue about what a perfect being would want to do, although that is rela... [More]

True, but then it wouldn't matter what God did. It could seem incredibly flawed or bizarre from our point of view, but our opinion wouldn't matter, it would still be perfect. Only a perfect being would even be able to judge what perfection is. Agree 100%!!!! Who knows, maybe we are perfect!
