A 53-year-old man whose heart had stopped for over 3 hours was brought back to life by doctors.
Arun Bhasin was taken to Croydon University Hospital where he was subjected to a revolutionary new CPR machine that was able to perform over 20,000 chest compressions on him. "He was pretty much dead in that he had no pulse or heartbeat for three-and-a-half hours so it is amazing that we got him back," said Dr Nigel Raghunath.
A man whose heart had stopped was brought back from the dead after three-and-a-half HOURS. Arun Bhasin, 53, was rushed into hospital after being found unconscious in the street in temperatures of -10C. But as he was being wheeled in, he went into cardiac arrest and was just minutes from death.

I see. Death occurs once the brain has ceased to function due to oxygen deprivation. I wonder if theres a way to re-oxygenate the brain after its died? Mind you, you'd probably be quite brain damaged. Or would you? Hmmmm. What generally happens is brain damage, yes. The brain needs a constant oxegen supply, brain damage starts to set in once the oxygen supply is shut off.

Mind you, you'd probably be quite brain damaged. Or would you? Hmmmm. There are times during a stroke(for example) where an area of the brain that has been going without oxygen for a while can all of a sudden get the oxygen it needs because of some kind of medical intervention(like clot busting drugs(TPA) or surgery to stop a bleed). If caught quickly enough there are times where the effects are not permanent, but it just depends on tons of fac... [More]

Medically as far as I know that if your heart stops and brain stops functioning then you are probably dead,, Since now as I remember doctors used to declare a person dead if his heart beat stops and they never try too much(as in hours) to revive him. But due to recent incidents in which people are revived after many hours or in some cases days after being medically dead doctors have a new vision towards life and death, now doctors try more in hope that the person may revive after hours also, and this is what is happening, nowadays there are many cases like this which I read in the news. This m... [More]

he wasent brought back from the dead because once your dead your dead nothing will bring you back these claims are ludicrous lol I know! It's like those claims about the earth not being flat and not having edges you can fall off of. Not just wrong, but LUDICROUS. (Ludicrous is uber maximum, laughably obvious ridiculousness. You can't get more outrageously silly than "ludicrous".)

I find that very difficult to believe based on your response. Sounds like something a high schooler would say, not an MD. So doc, where did you do your training? What was your specialty? Perhaps you can run through a cold water recovery ACLS protocol to show you know how to take care of those unfortunate souls that are unlucky enough to find themselves on your table... No cutting and pasting, you should know this material forward and back... I agree Fluffy. This is from another topic, but the "principal" applies and might inform some of the questions. User107026 should of course be familiar wi... [More]

My god 20,000 chest compressions ??? I'm guessing he thinks he was hit by 10,000 trucks and then ran over by 10,000 army tanks. You know he just got the wooping of his life to be brought back.
