Is alien life being deliberately discreet ?

Could extraterrestrial life be geared towards an evolutionary tendancy for inconspicuousness ?
Scientists have debated about possible reasons we have not yet come in to contact with an alien race for decades, but if resources on a galactic scale are scarce then it could be that civilizations are remaining discreet deliberately so as to not attract the attention of others who might wish to exploit their planet for their own purposes.
If so, the universe would be a violent place, and evolutionary selection may favour the inconspicuous – those who lie low on purpose, or who simply lack the skill or ambition to venture forth or advertise their existence.

I think it is a possiblity that the hiding alien civilization survive, but really we only have the chance to detect anything that is in our very close neighborhood, unless some aliens out there build a giant radio wave laser and crank it up to 10 to the 20th power or something and aim it right at us, then we have very little chance of actually detecting them. Voyager I, the furthest man made broadcasting object, is 0.2 percent of the way to 1 lightyear. And we can barely hear it. What chance of hearing normal strength broadcasts from alien worlds that are 20, 40, or 100 light years away? As of... [More]

A lame attempt to explain why we have no real proof of aliens visiting us. The truth is that we are separated not only by vast distances but also by gulfs of time. By the time an alien species travels to earth we may very well not be here anymore. Likewise by the time we get to another world intelligent life may not have evolved yet or be long extinct. Why are people so reluctant to admit this potential reality. It's a sign of just how self involved, self centered and egotistical we are.

Staying under the radar might be a good idea if there are some really nasty aliens going around fighting everyone, but we don't have evidence of that yet either. Who can say what's really out there? Maybe in a few years the evidence will point in a completely different direction, or maybe in a century we will be in the same position we are now.

Maybe alien life is really ourselves from the future and have returned to repair all the mistakes that we gave to Earth and ourselfs like what's happening today with Japan and offshore drilling, accidental germ release,NWO,let's hope for the better and that being Man and his love for more.

Its very possible Greys are just us from 20,000 years or so in the future, wouldn't that disappoint alien enthusiasts, lol.

It's interesting because just today I watched a show where Michio Kaku said it was naive of us to try and announce our existence in the universe in the late 70's(?) not only because of how unlikely it is that the message will be received, but also of how it could attract hostility. It's an interesting concept, nonetheless, when we think of first contact outside of science fiction, we almost always assume that they will be friendly.

We can't even get along amongst ourselves....why would they want to contact us yet? I think they are waiting....possibility they did come when the world was more naive...and we looked at them as Gods. We are not naive anymore, but we are hardly a trustworthy bunch!!!

It seems obvious to me that in order for an intelligent species to survive and evolve and thus continue to devalop technologically, it must first learn to overcome those negative inner tendencies that threaten to destroy it - anger, hate, greed, ignorance, etc. So higher ethics are inevitable in a highly devaloped species. This is why it is very unlikely that our world will ever be over-run by aliens bent on destroying us.

there is proof that people from other planets have visited us. Maybe not proof for this time period, but in ancient times they left indisputable evidence all over the world. The pyramids of giza, mitchel hedges crystal skull, and other crystal skulls from around the world that could not possibly have been made with our modern tools. Gobekli Tepi(which is 12,000 years old), Stonehenge, The ark of the covenant, The nazca lines, and most people know about the annunaki that lived amongst the summarians and gave them vast knoledge. The summerians tablets and artifacts have inions of all 8 planets. ... [More]

What chance of hearing normal strength broadcasts from alien worlds that are 20, 40, or 100 light years away? This assumes that a race trying to contact us, would be using similar technology to us. Now, what I think we should assume is that they will find the most efficient means of communication, whether it is close to the hydrogen frequency or not. Even if we need to ignore generally accepted precepts; remember, the human organism is fine-tuned to perceive in near-hydrog... [More]
