Which came first, the chicken or the egg ?

This puzzle is a vicious circle and actually has no answer, the chicken has laid an egg at the same time the chicken was born from the egg, nor is it really a puzzle because it is assumed that a puzzle has, as difficult to find an answer that is inherent in the application, this is just a play on words

OK...let me get this straight: Billions of years ago, when the earth was a soupy mess, some hunky looking protein became attracted to a foxy amino acid. They came together and -poof- a living thing came into being. Then eons go by and suddenly, by some genetic malfunction, the descendants of said protein/amino acid get-together didn't completely split apart, so now we have multi-celled something-or-others. I think its just sad that scientists are spending their time on this subject instead of doing something more productive.

But the article didn't tell where the chicken came from. So the mystery is still half resolved.We don't know whether a species evolved into a chicken directly or a species lays a mutated egg that turn out to be a chicken.
