The cremation of a 200kg woman didn't go according to plan as her excess body fat blocked an air filter.

The building in Austria was burnt to the ground as firefighters battled to put out the blaze. Similar fires have also been reported in Germany and Switzerland in incidents involving the cremation of bodies that were too large for the facilities to cope with.

Fire chief Otto Widetschek has called for special extra large crematoriums to be set up to deal with larger individuals. "In Switzerland, there is now a special crematorium for XXL-bodies," he said.

"A devastating fire which gutted a crematorium in southern Austria was caused by an obese woman's excessive body fat blocking an air filter, Austrian public broadcaster ORF reported."

Could you imagine an alcoholic being cremated? I'd be afraid of having an eternal flame.....

I feel the worst for the crematorium. For them this really was a tragedy. That would suck to have your business gutted by fire, no matter what the cause. Hopefully they have good insurance and will be able to rebuild. Perhaps if they do, they will build it with a larger incinerator.

Crematorium approaches their insurance company and asks, "Is this covered under our policy?" The insurance company responds, "Fat chance."

Seems like the crematorium should have known better... I wish the author of the article was a little more sensitive in making up the title. Because right now it sounds like a fat woman went on a rampage burning stuff down when sadly, she's dead and can't defend herself. Should have also thought of the family.
