Mother-of-one Asha Mandela from Georgia holds the current record for the world's longest locks.
Having grown her hair for more than 25 years, Mandela is now so attached to her locks that she can no longer bear to have them cut. "My hair has become part of me. It is my life. I will never cut it," she said. Measuring longer than the length of a bus, her record-breaking hair has attracted fans from all over the world and is the basis for her own secret hair formula.

It's not all good news however, doctors have warned that the sheer weight of her hair and the strain it is placing on her head and body have given her a curved spine and that it could eventually lead to paralysis. "Some have said my neck has collapsed at the back and that I need to be careful because I could start having spasms in my spine and probably be paralysed," she said.[!gad]Having grown her hair for more than 25 years, Mandela is now so attached to her locks that she can no longer bear to have them cut. She is the real life Rapunzel with 55ft long dreadlocks that are longer than a bus. Despite being warned by doctors that her hair that weighs three stone could paralyse her, Asha Mandela said she will never cut them.

Wow... she needs to see a psychiatrist... She's afraid that "someone with a hair fetish will cut a lock"? Call out the men in white coats please... I'm concerned, this woman has a child. A child who she is teaching about how her magic hair saved her life, and that if it's cut, she'll become a zombie. Wow... just wow....

My Great Grandmother came to America from Poland many years ago and she Never cut her hair. She was a devoted Catholic and believed in never cutting her or girls hair. When she died her hair was past the floor. In the pictures that I have her hair was in one long braid. So I guess for some people it's common place. I'm not sure if it started when she came to America or her mind was set to grow her hair when she was in Poland. Just thought I would share. This is where a time machine comes in handy.

I don't understand this statement 'The doctors seem to think I have a curvature of my spine and that it's the length and the weight of my hair that's making me curve.'Some have said my neck has collapsed at the back and that I need to be careful because I could start having spasms in my spine and probably be paralysed.'

That one dread lock which is said to be more than 55ft long, reminds me of the way wool looks when you undo a home knitted garment. It goes all kinky but can be straightened out by pulling on it.
