When viewing the series “Unexplained Mysteries,” you would most definitely recall the prominent psychic correspondent, Peter James. James’ white hair and signature black mustache added to his dramatic yet warm character. Though passing away in July of 2007, James was most remembered for his famed televised paranormal investigations for the Unexplained Mysteries program, FOX “Sightings” and Scariest Places on Earth; including noted episodes as “Heartland Ghost: Sallie’s House,” Alcatraz, Queen Mary, “Ghostwriter” home haunting, Colorado’s “Black Forest” investigation, “Texas Plantation” investigation, Belgrave Hall in England, “Suicide Bridge” investigation, “Heaven’s Gate” cult suicide compound investigation; and many more.
Before his passing, Peter James detailed his life and career as a paranormal researcher in his book, “Heaven Can You Hear Me?” Within, James details his rise to fame in the field of the paranormal as featured investigator for the Unexplained Mysteries series. Many that knew Peter James often recall his fondness when reflecting on his work for the program. Even when individual shows ended, James would often remain at locations, at personal expense, to make sure that families involved in segments were able to co-exist or ‘clear’ a residence of negative haunting activity.
Deborah Pickman, mother of the “Sallie’s House” home haunting investigation family, posted on Peter James’ dedicated tribute Facebook, “Peter cared so much. He even came to the house we [Tony Pickman] were going to buy (after the Sallie House experience) to be sure there were no bad spirits. His exact words were ‘I’m unimpressed’; meaning that he was sensing no spirits of concern. He was truly a gem!”
Prior to each episode of Unexplained Mysteries and “Sightings,” producers took great care not to reveal an upcoming location; or note events to James before assigning him to a reportedly active hot spot. Aside from historical landmarks, Peter James would often investigate private residences in which troubled homeowners would submit to the program regarding their personally plaguing paranormal activity. Again, with no prior knowledge, James would conduct his investigations of these locations for Unexplained Mysteries; while show archivists researched his documented accounts of psychic impressions. Ultimately, when thoroughly cross referencing records at local county courthouses (before internet in the early ‘90s), James would prove accurate every time. As stated by Peter James, ghosts would visually, audibly and ‘vibrationally’ let him know a person’s name, circumstances of death and project emotional sensations.
As Peter James’ co-author, my wife and I were longtime fans of James’ career from watching Unexplained Mysteries in the early ‘90s; then too, grateful to know Peter as a person as well. We have personally witnessed James communicate audibly with ‘Jackie’ the Queen Mary pool area talking ghost child; who’s voice has not changed in nearly twenty years of his discovery of her presence. He tried numerous times to get her to move on, yet she remains for whatever reason she chooses. Jackie is now fortunate enough to continue her friendship with Peter James today in her own realm. James’ personally produced famed televised investigations can now be viewed under the ‘videos’ tag and within the ‘blog’ sections of
