An Australian man was caught attempting a novel way in which to smuggle pigeons in to the country, when searched he was found to have a live pigeon wrapped in a padded envelope stuffed in to each leg of his trousers.
The 23-year-old man was stopped by customs officials at Melbourne airport after he disembarked a flight from Dubai. The officers searched his bags and allegedly found a vitamin container containing two bird eggs. A further search revealed he was wearing tights under his trousers, with a live pigeon stuffed into each leg. The birds were wrapped in padded envelopes, but had little else to protect them during the 10-hour flight."

I wonder if there isn't more about this that will be coming out in the future. It is extremely strange someone would take the risks this guy took to smuggle into a country with extreme quarantine laws probably the most common bird in the world. I wonder what the chances are these might be a pair of prize homing pigeons that were stolen from somewhere else at the request of a pigeon racing aficionado in Australia. Top homing pigeons, while being worth well over $100,000US, have been known to get lost in races so it is possible they might be something more than your every day type pigeon. its no... [More]

The things you wouldn't think could happen does. Wow. I can't see myself waking up one morning and decide to smuggle an animal in a foreign place.

That's so stupidly funny! Who would be that desperate to smuggle pigeons in the first place? Why would the poor birds be stuck in his pants? And why were they tightly wrapped in paper like little pastries? That's just wrong.

I remember I was arrested once when they thought I was smuggling a snake in my trousers, after they searched me they broke into laughter then apologized and said that they don't arrest people for smuggling a tiddly wink.
