Despite a ban on cameras around lake Storsjön in Sweden, intrepid monster hunters are still out in force to catch a glimpse of the legendary Storsjöodjuret lake monster on video.
Sweden's legendary Great Lake Sea Monster (Storsjöodjuret) remains the focus of photographers hunting for its image despite a Jämtland county council order banning cameras on the shores of Storsjön in Östersund in northern Sweden. Svenstavik local business association has continued its surveillance of the lake in the hope of the spotting the famed 'monster' without permission from the Jämtland County Administrative Board (Länsstyrelsen)."

One thing I haven't ever been able to figure out... Assuming these monsters are real...how do they pop up in random lakes all over the world, with no migration pattern or ecological compatibility? It's like someone took a saltshaker of Nessies and sprinkled them lightly all over the globe.

Just out of curiosity, Why are cameras banned? I could understand Boose and Guns, even motoreised vehicles, But cameras? Are they afraid of stealing the Animals soul with a pic? Love Omnaka

Don't quote me on this, because it's about third or fourth hand information at this point, but I heard that the problem was one group that set out about two dozen cameras, and in the process trampled several dozen acres of land. The local hunters got severely tweaked when they discovered their natural hunting grounds looked like a schoolyard. I'm doubtful, because I don't know if hunting is even allowed in Sweden, but it may have some grain of truth to it.

I recall a Discovery Channel show on the creature, and that many of the locals wanted to ban searchers and tourists all together, for fear ... [More]
