With the increasing number of movies and games featuring the concept of sentient, intelligent machines the question arises - just how feasible are such creations and how soon, if at all, will we be likely to see them being built in reality ?
The notion that a self-aware computing system would emerge spontaneously from the interconnections of billions of computers and computer networks goes back in science fiction at least as far as Arthur C. Clarke’s “Dial F for Frankenstein.” "

In movies, once a machine/s becomes self aware, it instantly decides to enslave/destory mankind for a very loose or speculative reason, giving us a kick *** plot device. In our world, I have no idea how a self aware machine would go about things.

Just don't let the machine watch history movies or sci-fi movies and we'll all be fine

If we try to turn it off it might object, thats the premise of the skynet AI in Terminator, and HAL in 2001 Space Oddysey

If machines become self-aware, nobody really knows what will happen. If it all goes downhill, then hopefully it'll beyond my lifetime.

As a programmer, the whole concept is ludicrous for a very long time. It's fun for movies, but they are fiction.
