New creatures in an age of extinctions

In an age when entire species are continuing to disappear from Earth's natural habitats on a regular basis there is still good news to be had in the form of the hundreds of new species still being discovered each year.
Since the last summary of the world’s mammals was published in 2005, tallying the roughly 5,400 mammalian species then known, Dr. Helgen said, an astounding 400 or so new species have been added to the list.

It's a bit ironic. While we are in fact discovering new species, we also become a new threat to them.
