An 11-year-old US boy has given up school, moved to India and is now the head of a Buddhist sect after he was declared to be the reincarnation of a Buddhist holy man who died hundreds of years ago.
A US boy is not going back to school - after he was declared the reincarnation of a Buddhist holy man who first died in 1250. Boston-born Jigme Wangchuk, 11, has now moved to India where he has been made the head of a Buddhist sect in the country's eastern Darjeeling city.

That's the best excuse I've heard for getting out of taking that math test...

The boy had gone insane. There's no physical evidence that he had a previous life. Give him more time and he'll want to return home to his mommy, daddy and friends. The novelty will wear off.

He has memories of his previous life. We can make theories how is it possible, but I think it’s a bit narrow minded to make theories why it can’t possibly be possible.

I wonder how specific his memories are. The memories of the temple sound pretty generic. I'd LOVE to read that the kid led observers to a cave somewhere where he'd hidden something hundreds of years before during a previous life (specifying exactly what he had saved before he found it).

Is that all? I’d love to hear about such spectacular case too, it would solve my personal dilemmas about the whole idea of reincarnation.

Is that all? I’d love to hear about such spectacular case too, it would solve my personal dilemmas about the whole idea of reincarnation. I've been thinking about this over the last few minutes. Would it matter if you were reincarnated if you had no memory of your past lives on any level? Obviously, the thought that your essence won't end when you die is a comforting one, but if your current life "disappeared"-- no memories, no known impact-- what difference would it make that you were reincarnated? Your present definition of self would be dead.

Obviously, the thought that your essence won't end when you die is a comforting one, but if your current life "disappeared"-- no memories, no known impact-- what difference would it make that you were reincarnated? Your present definition of self would be dead. Exactly. Unless – hypothetically – we get all our memories back at some point. Or, there’s the growth of the soul hypothesis, which understands that actual memory has no significan... [More]
